Fast Breaks & Floor Burns
A weekly newsletter covering all things College Basketball

About the Authors
Fast Breaks & Floor Burns is written by two complete college hoops junkies who met in college. Mason Johanek and Collin Jurenka met during their freshman year of college at Gonzaga University. They quickly discovered their shared love for college basketball, started a dynasty in College Hoops 2k8 and the rest is history. Today, Mason lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin and Collin lives in Shoreline, Washington.
This newsletter is essentially a weekly recap of their text exchanges throughout college basketball season. Every Monday morning, subscribers receive the latest edition of FB & FB which includes sections like a Top 25 recap, Mid-Major/One Bid League Highlights, and a preview of the week. Mason and Collin identify the most important games of the upcoming week to help readers plan their schedule accordingly.
Other sections include the Floor Burn Award (trademark pending) given to a player who turned in a do-it-all performance for his team in the previous week. The Tighter Than a Banjo String section covers an especially close game from the week before. Lastly, Collin runs an analytical model that predicts the score of each game. He reports on its performance each week at the end of the newsletter.
During their senior year at Gonzaga, they hatched a plan that would ensure they see each other regularly and celebrate their love of college hoops. Each year, Mason and Collin choose a random conference tournament to attend in March. They each pick a team to cheer for in the conference, change their Twitter profiles to match, and follow that team throughout the year. In March 2026, Mason and Collin will be in Johnson City, TN to watch the Big South Tournament.
